Terminal color scheme testing»

In addition to other appearance improvements for Xubuntu Precise Pangolin, we are creating a new Terminal color scheme to match the window borders of Greybird. It currently looks about this:

In addition to those who are testing the daily builds, we’d like to have some feedback on the usability of the color scheme. To do this, backup your ~/.config/Terminal/terminalrc and replace the original file with this file (remember to rename it as terminalrc if you are downloading it directly). Note that this file might override some of your terminal settings, which is why you should backup your terminalrc. If you want, you can just replace any lines with Color in the original file with the lines from the new terminalrc.

After you’ve tested it for some time, get back to us at #xubuntu-devel at Freenode or the Xubuntu developer mailing list and give feedback – both positive and negative. Thanks for helping us out!

Xubuntu website soon ready to be published!»

Lately, we’ve made some good progress on the new Xubuntu website. At last, all the theme- and plugin-related issues should be sorted out. We’re only missing some redirects now on the technical aspect. Currently, the site looks like this:

Much more pronounced, clear and professional than before, right?

In the following days, we will go through the content once more and update bits here and there. We are not aiming for a perfect site on-launch (even if that would be nice!) but releasing the new site as soon as possible and fixing the bugs and deficiencies along the way with you, our followers.

If you want to be helpful, you can either join us at #xubuntu-devel now to discuss the content before release or wait until the release and getting in contact with us as soon as you find a bug.

Last updates before Christmas»

With Xubuntu, we are currently finalizing the specifications for those roadmap items that need community approval. I discussed those briefly in my blog, in the Roadmap closed -article. All specifications should be ready by December 29, 17UTC, when we have our community meeting (see the Meetings wiki page for more details and the agenda). Please join us then, it’s a great way to be involved and a good time to start contributing too, since we still need to implement all the blueprints – while all of them have an assignee already, any help is always welcome.

On other news, we talk a bit about work done in the last weeks in the Shimmer Project blog. Check it out!

Have a peaceful Christmas time and a very happy new year 2012!
